There are a few different types of conditions that have to do with the gastrointestinal system, but one of the most frequently diagnosed and frequently the most severe is GERD. Or gastro esophageal reflux disease is a disease that occurs when the stomach contents regurgitate back up into the esophagus, which in turn can cause inflammation and damage to the lining of the esophagus.

Heartburn is a common side product of this disorder. When this happens, severe pain is felt. For many, the daily pain and discomfort is very stressful and the pain can be so severe it is similar to having a heart attack. It creates a burning feeling in the upper chest area and at times it can also be felt in the throat. Some people with GERD experience a sharp pain as opposite to a burning sensation. Infrequently, people experiencing heartburn think they are having heart pain and this can be quite disturbing and traumatizing.

Sometimes symptoms of GERD heartburn occurs after a person has a meal. For some people, heartburn can be a problem they have to deal with for their entire lifetime. There is generally a time where it continually occurs or the intensity increases and this can happen for weeks or months before the attacks and the intensity dissipate.

This is a very severe situation, as the stomach contents that is regurgitated usually contains acid and pepsin that are produced by the stomach, when refluxed up into the esophagus can truly cause disadvantageous damage to the lining of the esophagus.

Heartburn Gerd symptoms of acid reflux include a burning feeling by the side of the esophagus as the liquid is being forced back up. Heartburn Gerd symptoms of acid reflux can also include a sour taste in your mouth; again as a result of the liquid coming back up.

Heartburn GERD symptoms acid reflux is usually the first noticed symptoms since they are so uncomfortable and painful. Heartburn GERD symptoms acid reflux can vary from being mild to so severe that they are actually unbearable, and some people with the condition can hardly even get out of bed sometimes because the pain is so bad.

Other factors that add to acid reflux and the common symptoms of GERD heartburn include the amount and the type of liquids that reflux from the stomach into the esophagus, the stomach not carrying out its duty normally while in the emptying process and the esophagus not clearing out properly. Occasionally the ring of muscle situated around the lower end of the esophagus does not open and close at the appropriate times or a person’s saliva is not properly neutralizing stomach acid. Additional common symptoms of GERD heartburn includes belching, temporarily loosing the ability to speak, a constant cough and difficulty in swallowing. Heartburn is usually not considered to be a serious condition, however for people who have continual heartburn or severe heartburn, health problems can occur.

Heartburn GERD symptoms acid reflux can be treated in quite a few ways. Most doctors suggest that first a patient try taking antacids, as these are very mild but may offer relief for your symptoms. If your condition persists or get more serious however, then you will have to think of more serious methods of treatment, such as changing your diet.

Antacids which are available off the shelve that are effective in neutralizing stomach acid and reducing the common symptoms of GERD heartburn. Nevertheless, antacids are not doing well at helping people who have severe heartburn. Ask your doctor about the group of drugs that act to avoid acid reflux from occurrence. Theses drugs work by increasing the rigidity on the barrier between your esophagus and stomach, while some are designed to progress the body’s capability of emptying out the stomach.

Medications are also accessible that helps to reduce the amount of stomach acid being produced. While you don’t get the quick assistance you can obtain with antacids this type of medication will stop or reduce acid reflux for several hours after taking the medication. If you experience the common symptoms of GERD heartburn it is a good that you consult with your doctor.

What foods will result an attack? For many people, spicy foods are a definite trigger that will end up in a hurting bout of this disorder. Citrus fruits can also be a culprit with this disorder and may need to be avoided. Foods with caffeine and alcoholic drinks are also known to cause discomfort. It can be a course of trial and error to discover which foods result in an attack.

Heartburn Gerd can be a severe problem not only that is painful but also one that has the possible to cause serious damage to a person. It is very important that a physician help a patient to find out the causes of their heartburn and treat it appropriately.

GERD is a chronic condition; signify that once you have experienced the onset you will usually be dealing with it for the rest of your life.

Most people think of heartburn as a normal part of life – uncomfortable, but normal. Everyone they know gets heartburn at one time or another. They know the television ads by heart – the ones that show people thumping or rubbing their chests to indicate they have heartburn. Typically, people take an antacid and suffer until the burning sensation passes.

Heartburn symptoms are indeed common, but that is no reason to treat them too lightly. Heartburn symptoms do not happen by accident. They are a warning issued by your digestive system.

Heartburn symptoms must be considered in the context of their closely-related concerns: acid indigestion, acid reflux, acid regurgitation, non-cardiac chest pain, and sour stomach. Heartburn symptoms should also be considered in relation to GERD symptoms.

Heartburn symptoms closely resemble the symptoms of all the above, especially symptoms of acid.

Frequently-described Heartburn Symptoms

Heartburn symptoms are most frequently described as a burning sensation. Some may say they feel heat or warmth in the upper abdomen. Others describe heartburn symptoms as pain in the lower chest.

Heartburn symptoms occur behind the sternum – the central breastbone. The location, near the heart, is the reason for the name “heartburn,” but the heart is not involved. Some have described their heartburn symptoms as a feeling that the heart is on fire.

In addition to the burning pain, heartburn symptoms can include trouble swallowing, nausea, gas, and bloating.

Heartburn symptoms last as long as 2 hours for some. Some people have difficulty sleeping due to heartburn symptoms.

Why Heartburn Symptoms Need Attention

Heartburn symptoms, whether mild or serious, occasional or frequent, need attention. Let’s look at some of the reasons, beginning with one of the most serious.

1. Heartburn symptoms can feel much like heart attack symptoms. If you have heart disease, or are at risk for heart disease, seek medical attention immediately, even though you believe it may be heartburn. It is not worth risking serious or fatal results.

2. Heartburn symptoms, if frequent, can lead to serious medical concerns such as cancer of the esophagus. The acid that washes back into the esophagus can damage the sensitive linings of the esophagus, and lead to GERD. As it worsens, cancer can develop.

3. Heartburn symptoms are not isolated pain. They occur because something is not right in your digestive system. Heartburn symptoms are warnings. Just as you should not ignore warning lights on you car’s dashboard, you should not ignore the warning provided by heartburn symptoms.

Cause of Heartburn Symptoms

Heartburn symptoms are caused by a malfunction of the sphincter muscle at the bottom of the esophagus. This ring of muscle, the lower esophageal sphincter, is known in shorthand as the LES.

The first job of the LES is to open so that swallowed food can enter the stomach. Its second job is to close quickly to keep stomach food and juices from washing back into the esophagus.

When the LES is weakened, pressured, or relaxes inappropriately, it malfunctions. Stomach juices, and even bits of food, reflux (wash back) into the esophagus. Since the linings of the esophagus are not meant to handle the strong stomach acids, the nerves react with a sensation of burning.

Listen to Heartburn Symptoms

Since heartburn symptoms are the result of a malfunctioning LES, it makes sense to learn why the muscle is malfunctioning.

1. Does it need more oxygen?

2. Does it need more potassium or other electrolyte?

3. Is it dehydrated?

4. Would exercise strengthen it?

When another muscle malfunctions, we treat the muscle to strengthen it. Ask your physician how to strengthen your lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

Disclaimer: The author is not a professional health care provider, and intends the above for educational purposes only.

Just as there are many medical and pharmaceutical remedies for acid reflux or GERD, there are just as many natural remedies for acid reflux disease as well. Folk remedies have been around for a very, very long time. It is important to notice that while natural remedies are great for some people, they are not for others. As we always say on these types of subjects, “Seek out and do what is best for you, whatever it is.”

If you prefer pharmaceutical means of relief, then by all means, go for it. However there are many protagonists of the natural health community that claim to have the answers. This article is about those natural remedies. I suggest you try them for yourself and see if they work for you. Trial and error is the best thing you can try.

Naturalists say that following a detoxification diet, drinking 1 gallon of filtered water daily and taking high doses of probiotics (good bacteria) can counteract acid reflux. A rule of thumb is that you should drink enough water daily to keep your urine a light yellow color. It is noted that the sufferer of acid reflux may need to drink more than that to lower the Ph levels in the stomach.

On probiotics, apparently there should be an 85% existence of probiotics in the digestive or intestinal system. Probiotics counter out the effects of the bad bacteria, which are present in everybody.

Still others list one of their favorite natural remedies for acid reflux disease as a herb called Artemisia Asiatica. Others swear by the use of fresh garlic as a preventive measure to GERD symptoms. The garlic should be smashed with a spoon before it is ingested to maximize the effect desired. Garlic is known to kill an organism called Helicobacter Pylori, or H. Pylori, in the intestinal tract. This is the only material in the stomach that cannot be neutralized by hydrochloric acid (HCL).

On the less technical side, there are simple every day natural remedies, too. The simple use of cinnamon on toasted raisin bread is popular. Cinnamon has an antiseptic property and is able to settle stomach acidity issues.

Chewing dried grapefruit skins is shown to help sufferers of GERD symptoms. Just dry them out on a plate and when you feel symptoms coming on, eat a few of these skins. How many you will need to ingest is dependent on your condition.

The minerals present in romaine lettuce are known to settle upset stomachs and lower acidity levels in the stomach.

A mixture of mace, nutmeg and slippery elm is very effective in relief of GERD symptoms. It is simply prepared by mixing these elements with distilled water and adding them to a pint of hot half and half. Drink this like tea when symptoms arise. You can keep some of this made ahead of time in the refrigerator. Just heat some up when you need it.

I always tell my readers to consult a physician before trying natural remedies for acid reflux disease. So please talk to your doctor on these items to ensure there is no negative interaction with any drugs you may take regularly now.

An acid reflux symptoms treatment aims to cure the miserable heartburn symptoms by healing the scratched esophagus and the damaged lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

But how can this possibly be done without drugs? If you know anything about natural health or holistic treatments, you will know that acid reflux is a disease that can be naturally cured with your diet and different lifestyle changes. And you might not ever have to take an antacid again!

Acid Reflux Symptoms

Obviously, you know the symptoms of GERD also called acid reflux. Heartburn is the primary symptom of this common disease that affects one in three adults. It is characterized by a burning sensation coming up from the stomach to the chest and the throat.

GERD symptoms include the following: pain and discomfort in the upper abdomen; fullness in the stomach; and nausea after eating. Most of the symptoms will occur after a heavy meal, while you are bending over, lifting something, lying down and most of the times at night.

Though these symptoms can be cured! It is important to focus on healing the esophagus and sphincter.

Healing Your Esophagus and Sphincter

Without too much medical lingo, the esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter (LES) are the reasons you are feeling the consistent heartburn pain. If you allow the body to heal the esophagus and LES, you will never have heartburn again. Thus, you will never have to deal with the annoying symptoms.

The esophagus is the tube that carries food to the stomach. You most likely have a damaged esophagus because of the regular stomach acid being regurgitated up the esophagus. The good news is that the esophagus tissue is very resilient and new tissue cells can regenerate in days!

The LES is the muscle flap above the stomach that keeps food, acids and gases in the stomach. Due to regular wear and tear, the LES can become weak and damaged as well. Without a tight seal on the stomach, the sphincter will allow acid and gas to enter the esophagus. Thus, causing the acid reflux symptoms. The goods news is that the sphincter can be strengthened and fully functional.

Naturally Treat Heartburn with No Antacids?

Let’s face it, it stinks having to regularly buy antacids! Not to mention that they can only be safe to use for 14 days straight. After the initial 2 weeks, you should discontinue taking the antacids for serious health complications.

And you can naturally treat heartburn and never have to take an antacid the rest of your life! Here are 5 acid reflux symptom tips!

1. Water! Did you know that drinking water after every meal or food consumption will allow the sphincter to create a tight seal. The sphincter will then trap the acids and gases in the stomach. We recommend drinking a whole glass of water after every food consumption.

2. Food Therapy! Did you know that scratching your esophagus is a major part of your problem? You should eat soft foods for a period of 2-3 days to allow the esophagus tissue to rebuild. We also recommend avoiding coffee, spicy and acidic foods during this time.

3. Honey! This common natural remedy has even been found in pyramids dating 3,000 years back! Obviously, honey has been around forever but did you know that there are unexplainable healing powers in honey. Honey has been shown to increase cell reproduction which could cause the esophagus and LES to fully heal. We recommend taking 2-3 teaspoons daily.

4. An Apple! My dad carries a slice of apple everywhere he goes! Why? To discover how an apple a day has literally saved my dad’s life, please visit our Acid Reflux Symptoms Treatment website today.

5. Exercise! Not what you are thinking! But, actually training your LES muscle to become stronger and form a tighter seal on your stomach. Using 3 different exercises you can actually cause the LES to become strengthened. Begin by tightening your core (ab) muscles while using both hands to push down under the rib cage. Like all muscles, the sphincter can also be trained or strengthened. To learn more exercises please visit our website today.

Works in 24 Hours

Imagine having everything you need to know about acid reflux and curing it with natural health!

Not many people understand the medical significance of GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) and the symptoms that go with it. Decline in general quality of life is the result for many GERD sufferers. For inhabitants of developed countries, the problem is considerable. No less than 1 in 5 of all inhabitants in western countries are victims every week of some of the common GERD symptoms.

From different approximations made, some 70% of diagnostics using the identification of usual symptoms are in fact precise. Because GERD can make patients suffer a great deal and also give serious complications, it is essential to be able to see the symptoms, diagnose them and quickly arrange treatment. Doctors and paraprofessionals alike think that a first diagnosis of GERD, often via a questionnaire on typical gastro esophageal reflux disease manifestations, is critical to effectively and quickly treat this condition.

Symptoms of GERD may include: nose and sinus problems, chest pain (can be mistaken for heart attack-related pain), dry coughing, wheezing chronically, asthma, nausea, fallout of tooth enamel, bad breath, and dysphagia (feeling of an irregularity in the back of the throat). Acid reflux may also attack the ears (otitis media) and the voice (ranging from laryngitis, hoarseness to cancer). Heartburn and regurgitation are among the commonest symptoms of GERD. It is the contents of the stomach and its acidic juices, being thrown back up in the esophagus, that makes for the distressing burning feeling associated to damage of the esophageal lining where gastro esophageal reflux disease is happening.

The essential thing for regaining health and well being, and avoiding complications is the ability to pinpoint those symptoms and interpret them in the light of gastro esophageal reflux disease.

Symptoms of acid reflux are often an outer danger sign of internal general imbalance. Neglecting gastro esophageal reflux disease can result in major physical distress and may also cause severe health problems like cancer of the esophagus and pneumonia. Luckily, victims can identify the greater part of GERD symptoms before seeing a doctor. If a symptom (or several of them) occur regularly, the recommendation is to consult a gastrointestinal specialist for a full diagnosis.

Although a gastrointestinal endoscopist can provide a good preliminary diagnosis, conventional medicine as a cure for gastro esophageal reflux has two major drawbacks:

1. Life long dependency on drugs can result because a daily dose is required to keep the symptoms down but no action is taken on fixing the real causes.

2. Medicaments available as prescriptions and over the counters only act on the external disease symptoms, but acid reflux goes far deeper than this, being the result of a range of different inner and outer aspects.

3. Some drugs such as PPIs and antacids can contribute numerous undesirable side effects.

The holistic program that targets the factors that are both internal and external and that trigger acid reflux, also addresses the basic problem that causes this condition. It is a much more effective answer and it works for the long term. Whatever your degree of GERD is, tackling this condition by using a holistic approach will make sure that the fundamental causes of your acid reflux problem are dealt with in safety and with permanence, to bring significant improvement to your well being.

The cause of heartburn is refluxed gastric acid that enters the esophagus and then inflames the lining. This leads to the familiar symptom of heartburn as the throat or chest area discomforting burning feeling, produced either when eating a meal or afterwards.

This distressing and disagreeable ailment is experienced frequently by people in the western hemisphere. It does not automatically mean that you are suffering from a medical problem, if as a healthy person, you get heartburn on an occasional basis. However, if heartburn turns out to be recurrent, it can lead to a problem of acid reflux disease, also known as GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease).

GERD symptoms are not just limited to heartburn. They can also be experienced as regurgitation, pains in the thorax, bouts of asthma, a hoarse voice and a dry cough, amongst others.

Medical research done in the recent past shows a connection between GERD and cancer of the esophagus. This justifies the need to treat acid reflux in a timely and effective way. GERD can occasion even further suffering if it is neglected and left untreated, possibly being transformed into yet more serious problems.

Some causes cannot be treated or managed, an example being the inherited characteristics that lead to the complaint of heartburn. Other causes may be interlinked, such as bad sleep hygiene, an overly stressful lifestyle, accumulation of toxins, Candida infections and poor diet plans, which can all either directly or indirectly provoke acid reflux. To effectively treat GERD, it is crucial to recognize and treat the underlying reasons of this medical impairment.

To fight heartburn, there are three major types of treatments that a sufferer has available. Medications constitute the first category, whether these are prescription or over the counter. Regrettably, such medicaments are only a short-term answer and may also provoke undesirable side effects. Examples for acid reflux alleviation are H2 blockers, antacids and PPIs. These products concentrate on diminishing the symptoms of GERD by balancing out or diminishing the production of stomach acid.

The second broad category for trying to resolve acid reflux is surgery. There are however major disadvantages to this second category. Surgery is by nature intrusive and can therefore provoke other health problems. It only addresses the physical aspect of heartburn (a malfunctioning sphincter), without any action to get rid of the hidden causative agents that are in fact at the root of the problem. Surgery’s objective is to provide reinforcement of the sphincter muscle that seals off the esophagus from the rest of the digestive system, so as to stop gastric acid from getting back into the esophagus. When GERD begins, it is habitually because this sphincter is not shutting when it should, and not blocking the reflux of stomach acids towards the esophageal cavity in the reverse direction.

The third eventuality for heartburn patients is the holistic, all natural approach. This approach is the most efficient and the most effective, as it is the only one to combat the internal malfunction in a holistic way, while at the same time eliminating the symptoms and regaining your body’s natural internal equilibrium. It is possible to heal GERD effectively, permanently and safely through the adoption of a program specifically made to target the root causes of acid reflux.

of Gerd

General symptoms of GERD are heartburn, regurgitation and nausea.

Heartburn is a burning sensation in the middle of the chest caused due to nerve stimulation resulting from acid reflux into the esophagus.

Regurgitation is caused due to appearance of small quantities of liquid in the mouth resulting from reflux of liquid and/or food after passing through upper esophageal sphincter (UES) at the upper end of esophagus. The upper esophageal sphincter (UES) is a circular ring of muscles similar in action to LES (2).

Heartburn is the most common symptom of GERD. It feels like a burning chest pain right behind the breastbone. Pain may move upward toward the throat. It often is worse after meals. Bending over or lying down also may make heartburn worse. Standing up may bring relief. Heartburn often occurs after going to bed at night.

Other GERD symptoms include:

Burping-up, or regurgitation, of sour-tasting, acidy material into the mouth.

Difficult or painful swallowing.

Sore throat, hoarseness, and/or cough.

Wheezing in people with asthma A condition in which the small airways in the lungs are inflamed and become narrow when the person is exposed to something to which he or she is sensitive, causing difficulty in breathing.

Poor sleep habits and frequent waking

Nausea or spitting up more than one hour after eating

Refusing food and accepting only a few bites besides being hungry

Pain, irritability, stomach pain, constant crying

The main symptoms are persistent heartburn and acid regurgitation. Some people have GERD without heartburn. Instead, they experience pain in the chest, hoarseness in the morning, or trouble swallowing. You may feel like you have food stuck in your throat or like you are choking or your throat is tight. GERD can also cause a dry cough and bad breath.

Treatment & Prevention Options

Histamine antagonists:

A histamine antagonist blocks the histamine receptor (histamine stimulates acid producing cells) Therefore, by blocking the histamine receptors, the stimulation of acid producing cells can be prevented. Histamine antagonists are called H2 antagonists since they block histamine type 2 receptor. H2 antagonists are advised to be taken 30 minutes after the meals. Some of the H2 antagonists prescribed are Cimetidine (Tagamet), Ranitidine (Zantac), Nizatidine (Axid) and Famotidine (Pepcid).

Position

Gravity plays an important role in controlling reflux. Those of us who have a less than perfect lower esophageal sphincter (LES) find that if we lie down after a large meal, food comes back into the esophagus and heartburn occurs. If you experience heartburn, think whether it occurs after meals, when you lie in bed at night, or if you take a nap after a meal. Maintaining an upright posture until the meal is digested may prevent the heartburn. If heartburn occurs regularly at night, consider raising the head of the bed or inserting a triangular wedge to keep your esophagus above the stomach. Avoid exertion after a meal. It contracts the abdominal muscles and forces food through a weakened sphincter. This is especially true of tasks that require bending such as lifting or cleaning the floor.

Depending on how severe your acid reflux symptoms or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) condition is, you may require surgery in order to improve your symptoms, health, and overall lifestyle. Surgery is an option when lifestyle changes and medicine do not help you manage your acid reflux/GERD symptoms. For some, surgery can provide them a reasonable alternative to a lifetime of discomfort and medications.

However, you may be wondering what types of surgeries are available and just how effective they are. The following is a brief overview of the most common surgeries associated with GERD and their general success rate.

Fundoplication Surgery

Nissen Fundopication Surgery is the standard surgical treatment for GERD and was developed over 50 years ago. This procedure is designed to prevent or reduce acid reflux from occurring so that esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus) can heal.

Fundoplication involves gathering and wrapping the fundus (upper curve of the stomach) around the lower area of the esophagus, and stitching the wrap in place. This enables the lower part of the esophagus to pass through a small channel that has been created out of the wrapped stomach muscle. The objective of the surgical procedure is to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to prevent stomach acid from entering into the esophagus. It is also important to mention that during this procedure if a hiatal hernia is present within the patient, this is also treated. A hiatal hernia is when part of the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm. The condition is believed to weaken the LES.

Fundoplication can be performed in two ways:

1. Laparoscopic fundoplicaiton – this is the most common and less invasive procedure. The surgeon makes a small cut in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope (thin lighted tube with a videocamera) in the incision. Four additional pinpoint incisions are then made in the upper abdomen, and needle-like instruments are inserted to allow the surgeon to perform the procedure.

2. Open fundoplicaiton – In this procedure, the surgeon makes wide surgical incisions in the abdomen or chest, performs the surgery, and sews up the patient. Open fundoplication is typically only used for obese patients, or if complications occur with the laparoscopic procedure.

How successful is fundoplication surgery? Studies have found that many people who undergo the procedure experience improvement in their symptoms. In more than 50% of cases, patients experienced successful relief from GERD symptoms and esophagitis. However, many of these same patients still required GERD medications to treat remaining symptoms. That being said, medications are often reduced and do not to need to be taken on as regular a basis and most symptoms tend to be less severe than before the surgery.

Studies have found that approximately between 10 and 20% of patients who underwent surgery continued to have regular symptoms, and others who experienced complications from the surgery, required a second surgery within a decade of having the first.

You should be aware that the fundoplication surgery is irreversible and the long term effect of fundoplication for an individual is unknown.

Stretta Procedure

Stretta procedure is designed to reduce the occurrence and severity of heartburn and other acid reflux symptoms by tightening and strengthening the LES.

This procedure is performed with an endoscope and a Stretta device. An edoscope is a small illuminated flexible tube that features different channels where medical instruments can be inserted. A Stretta device is a very thin catheter that has a balloon at the end.

The patient swallows the endoscope and it moves down the esophagus to rest just above the stomach. The Stretta device is then inserted and the balloon is inflated. The outside of the balloon features four sharp probes that are designed to discharge controlled levels of radio frequency energy into the LES and the uppermost region of the stomach known as the gastric cardia. The electrodes make thermal lesions on the selected areas. After these lesions heal, the LES muscle toughens.

How successful is Stretta procedure? Many studies have found that up to 80% of patients who underwent the surgery experienced an improvement in their acid reflux symptoms. Many of the patients had a decrease in heartburn and other acid reflux symptoms within one month of undergoing the Stretta procedure. These patients managed to stop taking GERD medications with only encountering little or no discomfort.

The vast majority of patients stop taking their medications between 1 and 2 months after the surgery, but it is not uncommon for patients not to experience improvement of symptoms until 6 months after the procedure. Furthermore, a number of patients found that a year after their procedure their symptoms were further improved or ceased altogether.

The long term effect of Stretta procedure is unknown.

EndoCinch

The Bard EndoCinch Suturing System, commonly known as EndoCinch, is a procedure designed to help prevent and reduce the occurrence of acid reflux symptoms and heartburn, as well as reduce the need for GERD medications. This is achieved by altering the gateway between the esophagus and the stomach by placing pleats in the LES.

EndoCinch is performed using an endoscope and the Bard EndoCinch Suturing System. The patient swallows the endoscope which rests just above the stomach, and the EndoCinch is inserted. The medical physician than uses the EndoCinch to make a series of two adjacent stitches below the LES, and then pulls the stitches together to create a pleat. Although most patients typically only require one pleat, others may require additional pleats depending on their condition.

How successful is EndoCinch? Clinical trials have found that approximately 70% of patients experienced an improvement in overall symptoms, and 75% reduced their intake of GERD medications.

The long term effect of EndoCinch is unknown.

Regardless of the GERD surgery, you need to keep in mind that everyone responds differently to treatment and individual results may vary. Therefore, while some people may no longer need to take medications or restrict their diet, others may be required to continue with medications and lifestyle changes to prevent and relieve acid reflux symptoms.

Before you consider surgery, you need to understand every surgical procedure has some risk, and not everyone who undergoes surgery will obtain successful results in relieving their acid reflux symptoms. Therefore, make sure you know everything about the surgery including what is expected of you, and all possible outcomes. You need to ask your doctor any questions you may have, and after weighing all the risks, carefully determine if surgery is the right option for you.

There is a variety of acid reflux symptoms associated with the disease that is commonly known as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD. The main symptom is heartburn.

What exactly is heartburn? It is a burning sensation that begins in the stomach and radiates into the chest and throat. Heartburn is most likely to occur when you have done one of the following activities: lifting, lying down on your back, after you have eaten a heavy meal or bending over. Heartburn can also mimic a heart attack. When a person is having a very bad case of heartburn, it is hard to decipher whether a person is actually having a heart attack or is just suffering from heartburn. It is better to have the condition checked out just to be on the safe side.

Another common symptom is regurgitation. This is a feeling that you have when acid backs up into your throat. In some cases, acid can regurgitate up into the mouth. This is called a “wet burp”. In rare cases, acid regurgitation can cause vomiting.

Those people who frequently experience acid reflux symptoms at night usually experience more severe symptoms that people who suffer with it during the day. However, most people experience their symptoms during the night. When you continually experience such symptoms, it can mean that you have a damaged esophagus. Therefore, it would be a good idea to consult your doctor about this problem. Having severe heartburn does not necessarily mean that you have a damaged esophagus. However, it is still better to get the problem checked out.

There are other GERD symptoms that are less common. One symptom is chest pain or chest sensations. One may feel that food is trapped somewhere behind the breastbone.

Other less common symptom is throat irritations which include hoarseness, dry cough, or the feeling that there is always a lump in your throat resulting in you always having to clear your throat. In rare instances, a person may have difficulty swallowing their food which, as a result, would cause severe chest pain. It can feel as if the food is stuck in the esophagus. Other acid reflux symptoms include chronic sore throat and constant hiccups.

Some people have acid reflux symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. A person who experiences constant nausea for a period of weeks at a time and is not associated with a particular cause of stomach upset may be suffering from acid reflux symptoms. Vomiting may be a daily occurrence. However, before determining that the cause of such symptoms is acid reflux disease, other causes of chronic nausea and vomiting must first be ruled out.

There is also a condition which is called Barrett’s Esophagus. It can cause a change to the lining of one’s esophagus due to repeated acid reflux occurrences. About 10% of these cases will turn into esophageal cancer. If you happen to suffer from Barrett’s Esophagus, then you must undergo regular examinations, and you should be receiving treatment for your acid reflux.

Acid reflux or GERD can be cured using medical and pharmaceutical remedies but also natural ones because the common practice has proven their success for a long time. Anyway, before making any decision you should know that natural remedies for acid reflux offer great results for some people but there are also some exceptions and that’s why you should always follow only the right path for you.

Many people feel more confident using pharmaceutical products and that’s why saying that natural products are the correct answer for any problem is simply wrong.

A natural acid reflux remedy won’t hurt you but on the contrary it might solve a lot of your health problems.

According to some naturalists, you can fight acid reflux by drinking 1 gallon of filtered water each day, following a detox diet and taking probiotics (good bacteria). The indicator used to see if you drink enough water is the color of your urine that should always be light yellow. If you suffer of acid reflux, you should lower the PH levels in your stomach by drinking a lot of water.

Also, in your digestive or intestinal system must exist at least 85% of probiotics because the good bacteria fight against the bad bacteria.

Some people use the herb called Artemisia Asiatica as a natural cure for acid reflux while others recommend the use of fresh garlic. In order to be more effective you should use a spoon and smash the garlic before eating it.

The medicine recognizes garlic as a successful remedy against the Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) organism in the intestinal tract because studies have proven that this latter cannot be killed by the hydrochloric acid.

In addition to all that there are also numerous remedies that one can use every day such as cinnamon on toasted raisin bread because this solves the stomach acidity problems.

Dried grapefruit skins are helping with GERD symptoms. After you dry them you should chew the skins when you start feeling the ain. Each person must eat grapefruit skins according to the diagnosed condition.

Also, if you suffer from lower acidity levels in the stomach you can treat this with romaine lettuce because it contains many minerals that will help you.

The slippery elm mixed with nutmeg, mace and distilled water will deal with the unpleasant GERD symptoms. It’s recommended that you keep this mixture in the fridge and drink it whenever you feel the pain approaching.

Anyway, the acid reflux disease must be dealt with care and that’s why before trying any natural remedy it would be best if you consult a physician in order to be sure that the plants won’t interfere with your current medication.
